Obituary

After a short illness, in his 96th year, Bob flew his last mission, departing from the Brantford General Hospital on Wednesday, October 30, 2019, and now walks in heaven! Beloved husband of his late wife, Dorothy. Bob will be dearly missed by his children: Linda, Debbie (Ross) Fogwell, and Jim (Beata), his grandchildren: Kara (Paul) Marier, Ashley (Steve McGaghran), Jasmine Fogwell, Chelsey (Dave Aikens), Lydia (Mat) Doble, Aaron (Sam) Penrice, and Melody (Seth) Lippert, as well as his 10 great-grandchildren. Also survived by his brother Tom (Helen) Penrice, and many nieces and nephews. Bob was a flight officer with the RAF 78th squadron, flying Halifax bombers. He started operations in 1944 and flew 30 missions. Bob was a long time member of Central Baptist Church, former manager at A. G. Spalding and Bros., and a valued member of the Pencar and Truck Rental staff. Bob truly enjoyed all the time he spent at his cottage on Lake Rosseau, which he built when he returned from the war. Many happy hours were spent in his canoe and motor boat, as well as just sitting and taking in the scenery from the dock. For several years, he continued to pursue his love of flying by taking a few lessons and winging his way around Brantford, Muskoka and vicinity. He also liked to travel, and saw many places in Europe, the U.S. and Canada during his life. For many years he drove to Florida in the spring, going as far south as the Interstate would take him. He was a crossword expert, and diligently completed a variety of word puzzles and Sudokos, while he was chatting with Pencar staff and customers. Special thanks to the Brantford General Hospital CCU nurses and doctors who were so supportive during Dad’s last hours on earth. Friends will be received at the TOLL FUNERAL HOME, 55 Charing Cross Street, Brantford on Wednesday November 6, 2019 from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Service in the chapel on Thursday November 7, 2019 at 1 p.m. As an expression of sympathy, donations may be made to Central Baptist Church, Brantford, or the Canadian War Plane Heritage Museum in Mount Hope, Ontario.
